We Wrote the Book on Colorado Divorce Law

The partners at McGuane and Hogan are the authors of the Colorado Family Law Practice Series, a detailed work on practice of divorce with references to Colorado statutes, cases, and other commentary.

Judges, lawyers, and others the divorce field rely upon this book as the authoritative text in family law and divorce in Colorado.

Our firm has also written a number of publications on a variety of family law topics such as valuation of assets, child support in high income cases, and custodial parent relocation.

Divorce

Our goal as divorce lawyers is to listen to your needs and concerns and, based on our many years of experience, suggest an array of options.

We promise to be strong advocates when necessary, but we will not start a fight where a battle is neither wanted nor warranted. For example, some families may come to a divorce attorney with matters such as child custody already decided, but still having questions about asset division. In cases like these, our civil, principled approach will produce the maximum benefit with a minimum amount of stress.

Increased wealth often brings increased complexity which, if not handled carefully, can needlessly prolong the divorce process and make the emotional and financial burden much greater than necessary.

Our divorce attorneys achieve settlements in more than 90 percent of the divorce cases we handle. When the parties are unable to resolve all divorce issues, we can explore alternative ways of reaching a settlement such as mediation and arbitration, and collaborative law.

Legal Separation

A legal separation requires the same process and analysis as a divorce. A legal separation sometimes provides options with respect to continued health insurance coverage not available after divorce. Our attorneys are experienced in all aspects of legal separation, including converting a legal separation to a divorce.

Annulment

If a legal impediment to the creation of a valid marriage exists, the relationship may be terminated via a declaration of invalidity, more commonly referred to as an annulment. Depending on the nature of the case, financial orders, division of assets and child custody and support may also be involved. Our attorneys are experienced in all aspects of annulments.

Dissolution of Common Law Marriage

While a common law marriage can be established without a formal ceremony, a formal dissolution proceeding is required to end such a marriage. Our attorneys have represented many clients in connection with the determination of the existence of common law marriages, and the dissolution of these marriages.
